LG Chem is starting construction of a new electric vehicle factory in Poland. The factory will be located in something called the “LG cluster” in Wroclaw, in southwestern Poland, relatively close to Germany. The cluster is a set of organizations all working together on a similar supply chain. LG, Philips LCD, and the European LCD cluster are also located in Wroclaw. The electric vehicle battery plant will have an approximate size of 41’300 square meters when it is complete.
In a regulatory filing about a week ago, LG Chem has made its plans official to invest about 325 million Euros until the summer of 2020 to increase the factory’s output capacity.
The factory’s strategic location in Europe and as part of the LG cluster reduces logistics and supply costs. This will benefit European car manufacturers who need LG batteries for their electric vehicles.
This factory marks the fourth international production plant from LG Chem, with other systems located in Korea, the United States, China, and now Poland. The current capacity of LG electric vehicle batteries now exceeds 280,000 batteries.
